End of week one, a fun day. We started with breakfast at the Landmark Diner in Atlanta (truly an Atlanta landmark), then followed Walt’s advice and went to the Atlanta History Center for the Civil War Cyclorama.  Totally cool. And apparently, when Clark Gable came to Atlanta for the Gone With The Wind premiere, he admired it but complained he wasn’t in it, so they made him a Union casualty. The rest of the Center, including the gardens and a folk craft exhibit, were fun too.

We lost track of time and hit traffic, so thought we’d missed out on the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. But as we crossed into Alabama, we found ourselves in Central time zone with enough time to visit. What a great site. And now Ed needs just three states. (Laura had already been here.)

People have asked about the weather. We’ve evaded the big storms, though it rained a bunch last night. Now we’re worried about spring breakers!

If you haven't already read it, a great audiobook for the next part of your tour is Spying on the South: An Odyssey Across the American Divide by Tony Horwitz.

Being charter members of the Tony Horowitz fan club, we’ve both read it, but yes, it would be perfect

I worked on a history exhibit at the Atlanta Cyclorama back in the 80s when I was with Ramirez & Woods. As that was about 30 years ago, I'm sure there have been several new ones since. I do recall the controversy about my saying that the Civil War was fought over the issue of slavery!

The whole thing was restored and reinstalled in a new building. It’s amazing. And no flinching on slavery!
